FLAVOUR ORIGINS

The kiwifruit, often shortened to kiwi, is the edible berry of woody vines native to China. In the early 20th century cultivation of the kiwi spread to New Zealand, where it then became popular with British and American servicemen stationed there during the 1940’s. As a result, the fruit became closely associated with the antipodean nation, and took its name from the tailless and long beaked bird that is the country’s symbol. While its skin may have the brown fuzzy fur reminiscent of the bird, the kiwi fruit’s flesh has an attractive emerald green colour and a creamy consistency. Its taste is reminiscent of strawberries, melons and bananas, but with a unique sweet and slightly tart twist, making it a popular addition to fruit salads, desserts and drinks. The Mathieu Teisseire Kiwi purée is the purest taste of ripe, fruity and tangy kiwi flesh and it’s vibrant green colour and smooth and thick texture is the perfect accompaniment to iced and chilled desserts as well as fruity drinks and cocktails.
